Business Ethics surprised me. The case studies on transparent decision-making reinforced the link between trust and operational compliance. That perspective is shaping how I communicate changes to leaders and crews, framing the ‘why’ as clearly as the ‘what.’
Growth, grit, and going back to school
For Tracy, Business Ethics wasn’t just a class; it was a mindset shift. It helped her connect the dots between transparency and trust, and it has shaped how she leads and communicates today.
JetBlue Scholars gave her the flexibility to finish what she started, the support to power through the rough patches, and the confidence to lead by example.
What follows is a story of second chances, resilience, and the ripple effect one crewmember’s growth can have on an entire team.
“When crewmembers see leaders actively pursuing their degree while managing the demands of the job, it sends a clear message: learning doesn’t stop when you reach a certain role—it evolves with you. It’s sparked more open conversations about development, upskilling, and long-term career goals.
”
What motivated you to join the JetBlue Scholars program, and how has it impacted your career? I had started my degree years ago, but like many people, life happened. Between work, family, and other responsibilities, I didn’t have the time or flexibility to commit to finishing my studies. When JetBlue Scholars was introduced, it reignited something in me. I saw it as a second chance, a real opportunity to return to my goals in a way that fit my lifestyle. What stood out to me was that the program was designed with working professionals in mind. It removed the traditional barriers of time, cost, and access. Earning my bachelor's through JetBlue Scholars not only gave me a personal sense of accomplishment, but it also strengthened my leadership skills, reinforced my ability to prioritize and manage through complexity, and boosted my confidence in navigating both strategic and people-focused challenges. It reminded me—and now others around me—that it’s never too late to invest in yourself!
How did the JetBlue Scholars coach contribute to your success? My coach was instrumental in helping me stay focused and confident throughout the program. When I hit a wall with one of the learning platforms that didn’t align with my learning style, My coach stepped in right away. She not only reassured me that I could get through it, but also offered alternative platform options that better suited my learning style. Having someone who had gone through the program themselves, while balancing full-time work and personal responsibilities, made a big difference. My coach’s support helped me push through moments when I started to doubt myself, and that motivation carried me all the way through.
In what ways has completing your degree contributed to your personal development and confidence? Completing my degree was a personal milestone that went beyond just earning a credential—it reaffirmed my ability to follow through, even when the path wasn't easy. It pushed me to reestablish discipline and time management while juggling a full-time role and personal responsibilities. That experience helped me grow both professionally and personally. It also boosted my confidence—not just in academic ability, but in my resilience. It reminded me that I can adapt, stay focused, and overcome setbacks. That kind of confidence carries over into how I lead, how I problem-solve, and how I mentor others. It’s become a part of how I show up every day, both at work and outside of it.
How has the JetBlue Scholars program aligned with your long-term career aspirations? The JetBlue Scholars program aligned perfectly with my long-term goals by giving me the opportunity to complete my degree without stepping away from my career. It supported my desire to grow as a leader while continuing to contribute to the operation. Earning my degree has not only checked an important box for future advancement, but it’s also strengthened the skills I use daily, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and team development. More importantly, it reaffirmed my commitment to leading by example and staying invested in my own growth, which directly ties into my aspiration to continue progressing within the company and developing the next generation of leaders.
In what ways has the program fostered a culture of continuous improvement and learning in your team or department? The JetBlue Scholars program has helped shift the mindset on my team, from viewing education as a personal goal to seeing it as a shared value. When crewmembers see leaders actively pursuing their degree while managing the demands of the job, it sends a clear message: learning doesn’t stop when you reach a certain role—it evolves with you. It’s sparked more open conversations about development, upskilling, and long-term career goals. I’ve seen team members become more proactive in identifying their own growth opportunities, whether through formal education or learning on the job. It’s fostered an environment where improvement is constant, not conditional, and where investing in yourself is both encouraged and respected.
