Sharon didn’t just earn a degree, she earned two (Mic drop)
As Supervisor of Inflight Training at JetBlue University, she knew the kind of leader she wanted to be: strategic, empathetic, and results-driven. She completed bachelor's and master’s degrees to build the skills that would make a difference.
Now she leads with greater clarity, encourages team development as if it were a sport, and is laser-focused on a future in senior leadership. Sharon didn’t just level up—she rewrote the manual on what thriving looks like.
What motivated you to join the master’s program? In my current role as a Supervisor of Inflight Training, I’ve always strived to be a transformative leader. Someone who helps teams thrive while driving results that align with our broader company goals. To achieve that, I knew I needed to deepen my leadership skills and strategic understanding. That’s what led me to enroll in the Master of Science in Management and Leadership program at WGU. The motivation behind joining the program stemmed from a desire to sharpen my leadership abilities, enhance my understanding of organizational dynamics, and better prepare for the strategic challenges that come with managing teams in a dynamic airline environment. I wasn’t just looking for a credential, I was seeking real, actionable growth. Completing the program has had a profound impact on my career. It helped me master conflict resolution, strategic planning, and data-informed decision-making—skills that I’ve applied directly to improve team performance and cross-functional collaboration.
How did the program structure and support contribute to your academic and professional growth? WGU’s competency-based and flexible format was one of the biggest enablers of my success. Balancing full-time work and academic goals was challenging, but the structure allowed me to move at my own pace without compromising quality or depth. The regular check-ins and encouragement from my mentor played a critical role. Their insights often helped me approach workplace challenges with a more strategic, long-term perspective
In what ways has completing your master’s degree contributed to your personal development and confidence? On a personal level, completing the degree boosted my confidence, improved my communication, and reminded me of what I’m capable of when I commit to a goal. It reaffirmed my long-term ambition of rising into a senior leadership role at JetBlue and helped me set clear, ambitious professional goals for the next five to 10 years. What excites me the most is how the program has instilled a culture of continuous improvement not just in me, but across my team. I now prioritize development conversations, foster open feedback loops, and lead with greater empathy and clarity.
Completing the Mater of Science in Management and Leadership program has been more than just an academic experience; it’s been a catalyst for career transformation. It’s enabled me to lead more strategically, think more critically, and contribute more meaningfully to JetBlue’s mission of bringing humanity back to air travel. For any current or aspiring leader within our organization, I wholeheartedly recommend it as a path to personal and professional growth.
