American Government. A world of detailed information that I felt was necessary to know and learn. This course provided a clearer understanding of how our political system was designed and works.
From a casual chat to a cap and gown
What started as a quick convo with our JetBlue Scholars team in the JBU lobby turned into a 42-year dream finally taking flight. One course at a time, this crewmember proved that persistence (and a little encouragement from a patient spouse and some stellar Scholars coaches) can go a long way. The result? A degree, a boost in confidence, and a whole lot of gratitude for the journey.
“I obtained a new level of confidence merely by staying focused and committed along the way. ”
What motivated you to join the JetBlue Scholars program, and how has it impacted your career? I was motivated to join when on the way out of JBU one day, Margo our JetBlue Scholars Leader and Coach Michelle was at a table in the lobby promoting the program. She asked me some questions on my interests, and before I knew it, I completed an application right there at the table. I have been thinking about finishing my degree for forty-two years, and this was my opportunity!
In what ways has completing your degree contributed to your personal development and confidence? It took three years to complete my degree. I took one course every six weeks to accumulate a total of eighty-eight credits necessary to complete the program. The program allowed me to realize that it can be done. I obtained a new level of confidence merely by staying focused and committed along the way. The most important part of this journey was the tremendous support I received from my leaders, coworkers, and my wonderful wife Linda for her patience and understanding. Support is an essential part of personal growth and confidence.
How did the JetBlue Scholars coach contribute to your success? I would like to extend a huge thank you to my success coach for getting me started with a bachelor's degree plan. I knew I wanted to achieve success; however, the planning and collaboration process was complex in establishing a clear path to success. Once the curriculum was determined, my coach was there every step of the way. She made sure I stayed on track and made recommendations for study techniques, research paths, and successful decision making. My coach was like having an angel on my shoulder throughout the entire process. Thank you, JetBlue Scholars Coaches!
